Platypus: a semi-submersible transformer

The French company has launched a boat with a submersible module.
French inventors have come up with a tender that can turn into a submarine on the fly. However, only partially. The Platypus has a complex design — it is a trimaran, the central part of which can be lowered under water using a pantographic lever mechanism. The result is a semi-submarine that can be used for diving without complex equipment.

Platypus is equipped with its own stationary breathing system and allows you to make long dives without traditional diving equipment. The company's range features several models for different purposes: the entry-level Lagoon boat is ideal for environmental and professional use, while the Swordfish and Yacht Edition models offer additional amenities and are ideal for private tours and luxury travelling. Each boat is equipped with safety and communication systems as well as underwater lighting.

Platypus reaches 8.4 metres in length and 2.95 metres in width, it accommodates up to 12 passengers, including up to six people for diving. It can be fitted with an electric or petrol outboard motor and can reach speeds of up to 30 knots on the surface and 4 to 8 knots in submersed mode. The prototype semi-submarine has performed well in the Blue Odyssey environmental expeditions, during which it was used to monitor pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.
