Cannes Yachting Festival kicks off
The 47th edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival has begun in Cannes. This year the show sees some important changes in its layout.
Due to renovation going on in the Vieux Port of Cannes, which traditionally hosted most of the exhibition, there is less space for yachts and all powerboats under 12 metres were moved to Port Canto, the city's second harbour, where brokerage yachts, multihulls and sailing yachts were previously displayed. The exhibition in Port Canto is thus more extensive than ever: this year there are more than 300 boats on display: 120 sailboats over 10 metres, 170 powerboats of 8 metres and more, 30 of them on land, as well as about 50 brokerage yachts.
What should you carry on in Cannes?
A pair of comfortable shoes, a hat to protect you from the sun and a bottle of drinking water.
Maps of the exhibition are available free of charge at the entrance to the exhibition as well as inside the show. You can also use the digital catalogue on the exhibition website and even download it to your phone. However, this catalogue may not contain all the information — some last minute additions or updates may be missing.
How to get around the show?
To get between both ports, you can either walk or take a taxi along the Croisette or take the water shuttles (the fastest and most pleasant way), which run every 15 minutes from 10am. In the Old Port, they depart from the superyacht pier, from the Palais des Festivals and from Quai Max Laubeuf.
What's on show in Port Canto?
There will be brands such as Axopar with the world premiere of the electric Axopar 25, Boston Whaler, Brunswick with the Navan S30 and Navan C30, Candela, Delphia with the Delphia 12 trawler, Four Winns with the TH 36 multihull and the RIB brand Grand. They will be joined by Makai, Marex Boats, Nimbus Boats with the new Nimbus 495 Fly, Northman, Parker, Quarken, Ryck from Hanse Group with the indestructible Ryck 280, Saxdor, Sea Ray, Virtue, Wellcraft with the comfortable Wellcraft 435 and X-Shore, XO Boats, Yamarin and Zodiac with the world premiere of the largest boat ever built by a RIB pioneer.
Which sailing yachts are on show in Cannes?
More than 150 sailing yachts are exhibited this year. These include the world premieres of the Solaris 40 ST and Explorer version of the Elan GT 6, the Grand Soleil 52 Performance, the new flagship Hanse 590, the European premiere of the Thira 80 from Fountaine Pajot. Sunbeam 29, X-Yachts XC 4.7, Saffier 33 Life, Dragonfly 40 and Hallberg Rassy 69, previously seen at the Boot Düsseldorf pavilions, will be shown on the water for the first time in Cannes. One of the leading European brands Bavaria is represented by the Bavaria C42 and C38 models, and the young but ambitious YYachts brand is also on stage. One of the biggest line-ups from Beneteau Group includes Excess, Lagoon and Beneteau brands.
Motor yachts in Port Canto
Among the most interesting small motor yachts and boats in Porto Canto are Jeanneau DB/43 and DB/37 Dayboats. There are also four current models each from the Cap Camarat and Merry Fisher series, the Norwegian Marex 440 Gourmet Cruiser, Nimbus Boats' new flagship flybridge yacht Nimbus 495 Fly, Poland's Parker 910 Odyssey, Finland's Axopar 29 XC Cross Cabin, Saxdor 400 GTC and Yamarin 80 DC. Finnmaster Boats brought the new Grandezza 34 OC and Sweden's X-Shore brought the Pro T-Top boat. Polish Northman 1300 trawlers are represented by a larger version of the Bauhaus model. Sea Ray is represented in Port Canto with three models, as well as another iconic American brand Boston Whaler.
Upper motor yacht segment in the Vieux Port
The Vieux Port is home to larger motor vessels, up to superyachts of 40 metres plus.
Here you will see luxury yachts and boats from premium brands such as the electric Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air and Riva El-Iseo, the newly restyled Ferretti 670 flybridge yacht, the bigger Sea Ray models, the superyachts Tankoa Go, Sanlorenzo Almax, Cantiere delle Marche Maverick, the new 39 metre model in the Mangusta Oceano range - Oceano 39 and the magnificent Custom Line Navetta 38.
They will be accompanied by the latest Beneteau Swift Trawler 54, the elegant Pardo range of motor yachts, the new Riva Diable, the Axopar-Brabus 1000 Sun Top, the Invictus TT420 and Invictus TT460 small open motor yachts and a whole bunch of various fast and stylish motor cruisers and dayboats.
