The sailing avant-garde on the Far East
Vladivostok hosted 'The Sails of the Avant-garde' art regatta as part of the EEF.
The beauty of yachting gets twice as impressive when combined with fine art. Yachts are always beautiful, and yachts combined with fine art are doubly beautiful. On Sept 3, 2024 the Tretyakov Gallery presented the Art Regatta ‘Sails of the Avant-Garde’ as part of the annual Parade of Sails of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. Ten sailing yachts depicting works of various Russian non-objective art masters on their sails performed a beautiful passage in the Amur Bay.
The Art Regatta reflects three waves of Russian abstract art: the 1910s, 1950s-1960s and the beginning of the 21st century. For the first time, key works of the avant-garde were shown in such an unordinary way: the audience watched yachts with fragments of paintings on their sails.
The project was supported by the Association of Training Sailboats (Russia) and the Roscongress Foundation. The regatta was organised by the event agency ‘Auterra’ and the ‘Seven Feet’ yacht club.
